I saw these at our Renesaince Festival. The artist used old wool sweaters and left the edges unfinished to ravel. They were cute, but not really right for little children. I've chosen to make these Waldorf-type gnomes/Santas about 20% larger, out of 100% cotton material, and 100% wool roving for the beards. The features are hand embroidered. These fit comfortably into a child's hand, but are large enough to not be considered a choking hazard. The wool roving CAN be purposefully pulled mostly off, so these are for children wanting small world play, a pocket pal, or a friendly comfy, but are old enough to treat the doll with some respect and "pet" the beard rather than yank on it. These are great for sensory-needy kiddos.
